The Epidaurus Project Symposium on Healing Design, in progress since 2001, is designed to address design principles having to do with making a healthcare facility patient centered. Architectural design and program design are critical elements that work in concert to allow the patient to serve as the focus of every encounter within the health care system, to make every encounter a healing encounter.

The Epidaurus Project brings together architects, designers, healthcare policy makers, and bioethicists to examine the challenges and principles of patient centeredness. Participants are drawn from the federal government, academia, and the private sector.

On 3 August, 2006, the Project will conduct a focused symposium on specific elements of patient-centered design. Nationally-known speakers will discuss such features as advanced healing interiors, therapeutic gardens, spiritual spaces, and "Green" design. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.
